Marine rescue, Tin Can Bay

A 61-year-old man was rescued yesterday, June 16, after his boat overturned in waters off Tin Can Bay.

Hervey Bay Water Police were called just before 4pm to the Inlet following reports a small tender vessel had become submerged.

Upon arrival, the occupant was located in the water clinging to the vessel.

Police, with assistance from a Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol officer, pulled the 61-year-old man safely on board the police boat.

Officers administered first aid and transported him to the Snapper Creek Boat Ramp.

He was treated for hypothermia and taken to Gympie Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
