Portfolio Councillor for Social Wellbeing Dan Stewart said that the events aim to activate the community halls across the region.

“Community halls have long been the cornerstones of our smaller communities,” he said.

“They represent hubs of activity and community connectedness and this Council initiative aims to showcase their value and what they offer.

“These facilities are great venues for events, activities, meetings, special occasions, and community groups.” Veteran Hall is hosting the first event on Saturday, May 26 with a performance by Sunshine Coast Irish band, The Barleyshakes and supported by local group, The Dennis Sisters Band, who appeared on the Australian X Factor in 2016.

The next event will be held at Pie Creek Community Hall on Saturday, June 2 with a performance by Sunshine Coast jazz quartet, Sassy Jazz featuring Robyn Brown and supported by local artist Brendon Beltraine.

Local sewing group Frayed Edges have been busy working to decorate both community halls for the upcoming events.

“The group meets every Tuesday at Veteran Hall and their most recent project was to create colourful bunting to help theme the events,” said Cr Stewart.

“They’ve done a fantastic job and it’s great to have such community involvement and support.

“I encourage everyone to come along to these Small Halls events and enjoy a fun night with their friends and family.”
