Jimmy Barnes to rock Gympie’s G150 concert

Australian rock royalty is coming to Gympie to help celebrate 150 years of the region’s heritage.

In recognition of this major milestone, Council is bringing Aussie Rock legend Jimmy Barnes to headline Gympie’s G150 concert to be held at Albert Park on Saturday 14th October 2017.

Mayor Mick Curran said this promises to be one of the biggest events in Gympie’s history. “Jimmy Barnes is an Australian icon, someone who truly represents a fighting spirit and determination to rise above life’s challenges, providing enormous inspiration to others,” Mayor Curran said.

“This year’s Gympie Sesquicentenary (G150) celebrations mark the 150th anniversary since the discovery of gold by James Nash. Jimmy is the perfect fit to help our region celebrate where we’ve come from and how far we’ve grown since that time.”

Jimmy Barnes is the heart and soul of Australian rock ‘n roll. His nickname “Barnesy” conjures up images of rock music at an ear-splitting volume – both as a solo artist and the lead singer of Cold Chisel – as well as soul standards given a unique reading. Over his 40+ year career, Jimmy has been through it all, and lived to tell the tale which he did in his bestselling memoir, Working Class Boy, and is about to do it again with a second volume, Working Class Man, due for release later this year. Along the way, Jimmy has sold more records in Australia than any other domestic rock ‘n’ roll artist and his live shows are legendary for their intensity.

Jimmy will be supported by some of Australia’s rock icons including The Black Sorrows, The Voices (Jason Singh, Reece Mastin, Katie Underwood, and Paul Gray), and local artists Brooke Schubert and TotoSenda.

Mayor Curran added that the concert will be a huge draw card for local residents and visitors to the area.

Tickets are limited and go on sale today from 9am, Friday, 21 July 2017. As a special G150 gift for the community, General Admission is only $10 and children 12 & under free. To purchase tickets, visit rushfestival.com.au.

Gates open at 3pm, for a 4.30pm start. Rides, food and drinks, and a licensed area will be available.

The G150 Concert forms part of the Rush Festival running from 5 to 21 October, with a full program of music, visual arts, film, comedy and outdoor events.
