From Destination Gympie Region
by Andrew Saunders
In Game of Thrones one of the sayings is ‘winter is coming’, this year we seem to have missed ours!
While the region does need some good rain, the sunny skies have been great for tourism and some of the various promotional projects we have on the go.
Recently we had The Great Day Out in the region, filming stories that featured Rainbow Beach and the Mary Valley; other planned episodes will include the Gympie 150 celebrations and the return of the Mary Valley Rattler.
This month, the Australian Society of Travel Writers had their annual convention on the Sunshine Coast. Destination Gympie Region, working with Visit Sunshine Coast, hosted three visits to the region featuring up to 12 writers. These famils will create numerous articles across a host of publications in Australia and internationally.
Additionally, DGR will be hosting a group of six key German travel media in the region. The German market is the largest international market for this region and there is a lot of interest in our natural environment of the bush and coast.
These groups will not only see the region, they will taste the region with fresh local produce being a highlight of any famil.
