Timely reminder for beach goers
by Senior Constable Adam Lawes
As the winter(ish) days begin to warm up and people start hitting our beaches once again, it is timely to remind both residents and visitors alike to be mindful of local tide times and their behaviour on the beach.
Those who live locally or frequent our beautiful beaches can give testament as to how unforgiving the water can be to those who wish to tempt fate and drive in the surf. In 2015 and 2016 to date, police have been called to numerous vehicles that have been lost to the water, many of which have occurred at the somewhat infamous ‘Mudlo Rocks’.
The QPS, in conjunction with Suncorp Insurance, have developed a 2016-17 Rainbow Beach tide times leaflet. This leaflet is currently being distributed to local businesses and beach goers by Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach police.
The leaflet provides the forecasted tides up until June 2017, tips to follow when camping or driving on the beach to ensure your time in our area is incident free, as well the contact numbers of local police and Policelink. It is hoped the leaflet will provide travellers with the necessary information to plan their trip without falling victim to the unexpected.
Tide leaflets will be available at the Tin Can Bay Police Station and Rainbow Beach Beat Office as well as various local businesses in the coming days.
