Congratulations to six of our Heart Foundation Walkers, who achieved the following awards during this past month.

Hilda T, Linda Fewtrell, Lorraine Goode, and Ralph receive a certificate and a $10 discount voucher from the National Heart Foundation Online Shop for their first 50 officially recorded walks. Sylvie receives her 100 Walks badge, plus certificate and a $15 voucher, while Dixie receives her second badge to pin on her red cap: 200 Walks, plus certificate and a $20 voucher.

Well done, and it’s great to have your company as we enjoy walking and talking along the Tin Can Bay foreshore and boardwalk, and meandering the Cooloola Cove streets and creekside ‘with our Wheelies out in front’, before our coffee afterwards.

Unbeknownst to me, one or more Walkers nominated me for the 2023 Golden Shoe Awards, which “recognise the incredible contribution our volunteer Walk Organisers make to their walking groups. As true community champions, they often go above and beyond their role to ensure their group is welcoming, motivating and supportive to each and every walker, each and every walk.

“The theme for this year’s awards aligned with the national Volunteer Week theme of ‘The Changemakers’. Over 400 nominations were received, sharing the various ways in which Walk Organisers were creating positive change for their groups.”

Well, thank you very much. The reality is it’s a TEAM EFFORT. Huge thank you from me to our Walk Organisers: Beverley Jones, Denise McKean, Judy Kiddle, Kate Gregory, and Kristine Pack, and to each and every member of our Heart Foundation Walking groups: ‘One Step at a Time Tin Can Bay’ and the ‘Cooloola Cove Wheelie Walkers’.

There’s lots of support for me and for each other in our two HFW groups on the Cooloola Coast. My biggest supporter is the man at home, doing the cooking and the gardening, while I am out walking and socialising.

Looking forward to supporting the Cooloola Medical Transport ‘Christmas In July’ fundraiser lunch on Wednesday 19 July at the Cooloola Coast Bowls Club.

New members are welcome. Wednesdays and Saturdays depart Tin Can Bay Bakery with the early group at 7am, or later group at 7.30am during winter. CCWW meet by 9am Mondays and Fridays at the bus shelter outside the Cooloola Cove Shopping Centre.

Walk Yourself Happy! Contact Judy Kiddle in Cooloola Cove, 07 5486 2181 or myself on 0400 756 615.
