Konnichiwa to Tin Can Bay!

By Harrison

Tin Can Bay P-10 State School is excited to have Sensei Bishop join our school to teach Japanese to the Grade 5, 6, 7 and 8 students.

Some interesting facts about Sensei:

Name: Sensei Lewis Bishop

Lived: Yokohama Japan

Reason of visit to Japan: Found Japan interesting

Thoughts about Japan: Safe, convenient, fascinating and exciting. Originally planned to stay for a year.  Decided to stay for a bit longer, which turned into twenty years!

Sensei also teaches Japanese at Rainbow Beach State School, Kia Ora State School and Wolvi State School.

Making a splash at the school swimming carnival

By Maddi and Matilda

The 4-10 Swimming Carnival for students at Tin Can Bay P-10 State School was a fun action-packed day full of races. The crocodile race was a favourite for many students as they split into their two teams, Tun Can and Wallu, and completed laps of the Tin Can Bay swimming pool for 10 minutes non-stop to get as many points as possible.

Although Tun Can was the clear winner with 729 points while Wallu had 716 points, the Cross Country is just around the corner and Wallu will be fighting to prove their strength.

Keepin’ Cool in School

By Harmonie and Grace

Prep at Tin Can Bay P-10 State School have had an excellent start to the year, enjoying the newly installed air-conditioning in their building.  The P&C worked hard to successfully raise the money to keep the Preppies cool throughout the summer heat, which all have appreciated these last few scorching weeks.

The next goal for the P&C is to raise money for air-conditioning in the Prep/1 and 3/4 classrooms.

The P&C is always looking for new members. If you’d like to come along, they meet  on the 3rd Tuesday of each month in the main staffroom of the school.

Hello and welcome to 2019!

Karen Van der Heijde – School Chaplain P

A warm welcome to all new families commencing at Tin Can Bay P-10 State School this year, and welcome back to all the familiar faces! This year is shaping to be another great year here at Tin Can Bay SS, and I’m looking forward to what it might entail.

I’m on site Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. It’s my privilege to be part of the school community, helping families wherever I can. I offer social, emotional and spiritual support for students, parents and staff.

I am hoping to start a ‘Lunchtime Connect’ group for students later this term, so keep an eye out for more details. Remember, we have Breakfast Club each Tuesday and Thursday from 7.30am at the servery of the hall – come along, grab some food and say hi to myself and the great volunteers who give up their time to serve you.

If there’s any way I can support your child/ren, or yourself – please feel free to come and see me in M1, give the office a call on 5488 1222 or you can email me on karenv@chappy.org.au – I’d love to meet you.
