The Bay to Bay is back!
Look out for the return of the Yachties, May 1-2
The Bay to Bay is an annual yacht race from Tin Can Bay Yacht Club to Hervey Bay, run by the Hervey Bay Yacht Club. The race is on the first weekend in May and is conducted over two days with an overnight stay at Garry’s anchorage.
The first race was held in 1980 and this year will be the 40th event, having been cancelled last year like many events, due to Covid 19. There were 30 boats expected for the first race and 114 turned up. Numbers of boats have been as high as 230 but on average there is now about 140.
The Yacht Club Bar and Bistro will be open on the Friday night prior to the race and on Saturday morning for breakfast. Come and enjoy drinks and dinner on the deck and watch the preparations for the start of the race on Saturday morning.
Depending on wind direction, if there is a spinnaker run from the start, it is a spectacular sight with colourful spinnakers flying.
