Sporting Shooters Tin Can Bay Branch Inc.
All disciplines of Tin Can Bay Branch of Sporting Shooters are well up and running with shooters and archers enjoying their chosen sport.
The Archery division is rapidly improving with the addition of a container for secure storage of equipment, and young trees have been planted which will provide more shade in a the next few years. Some of the older Tin Can Bay P10 students have begun to participate in archery as their sporting option, and bows, arrows and other necessary equipment is available for their use, along with anyone else who is interested in the modern version of an ancient art. For more information about Archery contact Niall on 0417 449 949 or Bryan on 0408 156 109.
This small local branch of Sporting Shooters Association of Australia recently held the inaugural National Air Rifle Field Target event with the help of Chris and Heather from the Sunshine Coast and our members to help set up the amazing targets positioned at various distances in a natural bush setting. Early May saw a Zone 3 event held at Tin Can Bay with local members Gordon, Brian and Sonny taking out the top three positions in B grade – well done to all.
Congratulations also to the President Gordon for sharing in the “Queensland Hunter of the Year” competition; quite a wonderful achievement for a person who has been wheelchair bound for more than 30 years and still enjoying sports shooting.
Next major event will be the Arms & Collectibles Fair to be held at the Gympie Showground Pavilion, Exhibition Road, Gympie over the weekend of 14/15 June from 9am each day: lots of displays, memorabilia, collectibles, antiques, jewellery, firearms & accessories with food, drinks etc. available.
Safety courses for firearms licences are held regularly at the Tin Can Bay Range, with occasional courses held at the sister range at Wattle Grove Park at Amamoor.
No general access is allowed on either range without a qualified Range Officer in attendance, but for further enquiries, contact Gordon on 0428 865 205, Bryan on 0408 156 109 or Lois on 5486 2559.
