Cooloola Dragon Boat Club Compete in the Town of 1770
In mid-August the Cooloola Dragon Boat Club travelled north to the Town of 1770 to compete in the final dragon boat regatta of the Wide Bay Dragon boat race series.
The whole team had a great weekend but unfortunately there was no ‘bling’ to bring home. The team did paddle very well and were in the hunt for most of the races but were often ‘pipped at the post’.
The overall honours for the 2022 Wide Bay Series went to the 1770 team who performed very well over this event and the previous three events at Bundaberg, Tin Can Bay, and Hervey Bay. The Cooloola Dragons congratulate them on a great season’s performance.
1770 had organised a great event and as well as the racing there was fantastic entertainment by a group of about 15 ukulele musicians. It is quite spectacular to see and hear 15 ukulele musicians performing together.
This was very much enjoyed and appreciated by competitors and spectators. Also to add to the event 1770 had some wonderful raffles which some of our girls were lucky enough to win.
Then to finish off a great weekend of competition and friendship, the Cooloola Dragons team embarked on the LARC (Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo vessel) for a couple of hours of thrills. The LARC is a military amphibious supply vessel and this one is named after Dr Daniel Solander.
Altogether it was another wonderful weekend of spirited competition, relaxation, camaraderie, and friendships.
Everyone is welcome to come and try out paddling on Thursdays and Sundays with the Cooloola Dragon Boat Club.
Call Sandra on 0402 352 756 for more information on becoming a Cooloola Dragon.
PLEASE NOTE: From the beginning of September the start time for Thursday’s paddling is 3.30pm for 4.00 pm on the water.
