Take A Deep Dive Into An Ocean-Loving Local Business
The deep and abiding love of the ocean that Wolf Rock Dive’s owners Fiona and James have is evident to see when you walk into their new premises.
Not only do they run a world-class PADI 5-star dive centre right here in Rainbow Beach, they now display and sell stunning local jewellery and ocean-themed books for children, including pop up, colouring and educational marine conservation books, and jigsaw puzzles.
“We have our own children with a thirst for reading, so we thought we’d stock the type of materials we share with our children to educate them on the underwater world that plays such a huge part of our lives,” owner Fiona told Rainbow Beach Community News.
Wolf Rock Dive also stock silver and gold ocean-themed jewellery, designed and made by Hervey Bay jewellers World Treasures Designs. The selection includes pieces that celebrate whales, turtles and sharks, including necklaces, pendants, rings, earrings and charm beads.
Fiona and James also hire out sit-on kayaks for adult and children, and stand up paddle boards.
They can be rented on an hourly basis for self-guided exploration of the mangroves and estuary from Carlo Point Marina, where sea eagles, pelicans, small turtles, and rays can be observed.
“We love Rainbow Beach, it has endless natural beauty, beaches and surf. The small community keeps the beach town vibe,” Fiona said.
“James and I have been Scuba diving instructors our whole adult lives. After travelling the world we met in WA and pursued our career by purchasing Wolf Rock Dive Centre in 2016.”
“As a dive site it is truly world-class diving. Being a protected Marine Park Green Zone makes it home to a large number of fish species, turtles, rays, whales, sea snakes, and plenty of sharks.
It’s home to the grey nurse shark, and we are lucky to have them all year round as the pregnant females congregate around the Rock as a safe space to grow their babies.”
Located 2 kilometres off Double Island Point, Wolf Rock was classified as a marine sanctuary in 2003 when it was observed to be the only known gestation site for the critically endangered grey nurse shark on the east coast of Australia.
There is something for all ocean lovers at Wolf Rock Dive – drop in and visit Fiona and James today at 339 Carlo Road, Rainbow Beach.
