New floating walkway for Carlo Point

carlo point boat ramp 1Tony Stewart from Rainbow Beach Fishing Charters will be pleased. After travelling last month he posted a photo of a ramp and asked, “Why can’t Carlo Pt be like this?” -well now it is!

Work is set to start on a $543,000 contract to upgrade the existing boat launching facility at Carlo Point.

Member for Gympie David Gibson said the contractor was expected to begin on-site works at Carlo Point this week.

The project involved resurfacing works and building a new floating walkway on an existing lane of the ramp.

“The new walkway will be a great addition, helping to reduce congestion and assist with boat launching and retrieval, especially in busy times,” Mr Gympie said.

“The new walkway will also improve pedestrian accessibility, particularly for children, people with a disability and the elderly entering or leaving vessels at the ramp.”

He asked boaties to be patient while the boat ramp works were underway.

“In order to complete the works safely and efficiently, the boat ramp will be restricted to one lane while the majority of the works are completed,” he said.

“Due to the nature of the works, there may also be times where a short-term full closure of the ramp is necessary for safety, however these closures will only be a few hours.

“Please use caution around the project site while the works are under way, and continue to be aware of those around you during busy periods.”

Your say – from RBCCCN facebook page:

Mark Poulter Would be nice to get the launch spot at Bullock the same as Carlo is now. It’s a big saving with fuel and closer to Fraser! (We are waiting on feedback on this, Ed.)

Jim Cole All the ramps in our area are in dire need of upgrades & improvements. Crab creek is only accessible at high tide, pot holes in the ramp at Bullock plus lack of car park space. Carlo & Norman Point boat ramps are really substandard compared to others closer to Brisbane.

Dean Casperson Carlo Point boat ramp needs a ramp on southern side so you can get boat on and off trailer when its blowing a northerly

Sam Bushell No one should lose sight of the fact that for a short term inconvenience Carlo Point will finally have its long awaited public pontoon.
