Sands beautification project underway
Gympie Regional Council will begin the beautification of sections of the Mary River near the Sands from Monday, 9 July 2018.
The project involves the removal of woody weed species which will be replaced with a variety of native rainforest plants.
Due to the nature of these works, access to the Sands and the adjoining carpark via the Bruce Highway will be closed to the public from Monday, 9 July – Monday, 23 July 2018.
Access to the Sands can still be gained via the River to Rail Trail.
This beautification project is happening in conjunction with Stage 2 of Council’s River to Rail Trail project and is funded through a grant from the Department of Energy and Environment’s 20 Million Trees Program.
The revegetation process is jointly funded by Federal Government grants and Council’s environment levy.
