Reel in the prizes at Rainbow’s Fishing Classic!

fishing classic jun 14The Rainbow Beach Family Fishing Classic, one of South East Queensland’s most iconic and largest annual events is in its 28th year and it is one of the few remaining fishing tournaments on the eastern seaboard.

The eight-day festival this year will be held from Friday, July 4 to Saturday, July 12 over the school holidays.

The Rainbow Beach Family Fishing Classic is proudly run as a family and community event and is aimed at all ages and all levels of experience. Our emphasis is on enjoyment of the great outdoors and to showcase our region to competitors as well as the general public nationally.

Held on beautiful Rainbow Beach, the event attracts in excess of 750 local and interstate competitors and their families each year. It is estimated that about one quarter of participants are women, with a special Ladies Day just for them.

The event has undergone a small facelift and has added more excitement to the event with loads of live entertainment, prizes and promotions for competitors and spectators alike. You don’t need to catch a fish to win a prize.

Afra Chappil, Event Administrator, Rainbow Beach Sports Club and host of the 2014 Mitsubishi Rainbow Beach Family Fishing Classic says, “We have already received more than 200 registrations to compete for over $100,000 in prizes and we are anticipating over the 750 professional, amateur and recreational anglers that entered last year. We believe this year is going to be the biggest year yet for the event.”

Live entertainment and various promotions will highlight throughout the week. The festivities will kick off with live entertainment on the Friday night July 4th with the Grand Finale on Saturday July 12th.
