Rainbow Beach State School garden entered into Gympie Garden Expo

gympie garden expo 2016 logoThe Kitchen Garden team and students at Rainbow Beach State School have been working hard creating above ground ‘no dig’ gardens and planting out the existing raised garden beds with peas, beans, okra, capsicum, tomatoes, silver beet and carrots.

The warm temperatures and recent rain have meant that the seedlings are growing at a great rate and will be ready for harvest in Term 2.

The Gympie Garden Expo, held on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1 at the Gympie Showgrounds kicks the month off and is a must for the keen gardener.

The Expo runs several competitions, including one for school gardens which we have entered, with the judges visiting our garden on Monday, April 25.

There is also a children’s art competition for students in Prep to Grade 3 called ‘In Your Garden’ where children are invited to create a work of art using paper, paint, seeds, feathers or other materials they would find in the garden on A4-size paper or card.

Entries need to be sent in by April 22 and there are some fantastic prizes donated by Bunnings that will be presented at 2pm on Sunday.

Brimming with ideas and educational advice for the home gardener, the Gympie Garden Expo offers a wonderful array of plant and orchid displays to inspire and delight. It is a challenge not to come away with too many plants!
