Organisations that care
by Senior Sergeant Gregg Davey
Gympie Police are part of the Cooloola Partnership Against Domestic and Family violence Network that meets regularly with a number of key stakeholders. One of these stakeholders is the Gympie and District Women’s Health Centre – I would like to bring to your attention the excellent services provided by that organisation:
The Gympie and District Women’s Health Centre offers counselling, information, support and referral services to women (14 years and over) in the Gympie region. Counselling is available on any issue, including domestic and family violence, grief, mental health issues, parenting and relationship issues. The Centre also offers workshops on a variety of topics, from physical health through to personal development.
Cervical cancer screening is offered once a week also. All clinicians and counsellors are experienced and tertiary qualified. Most services are offered are free of charge, though there is a small contribution for counselling ($20 per session, reduced to $10 if holder of a health care card; fee can be waived if in financial difficulty).
Women are encouraged to phone for an appointment on 5483 6588; there is no referral required. The office is open between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday and located at 21 Alfred Street, Gympie (near the Gympie Hospital).
The Centre also has a web page – visit www.gwhc.com.au or find them on Facebook. Services are offered under funding from the Queensland Government, and by partnership with PHN Central Coast, Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast.
If you need help or assistance please ask. There is a large number of organisations in the Gympie area that provide assistance and services across a myriad of issues.
