Gympie Regional Council, in conjunction with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, recently held the first of regular Disaster Preparedness Workshops, offered in conjunction with the Cooloola Human Services Network.

The free interactive workshops will assist human service organisations prepare for a major emergency event, where property is damaged, power is lost or services are disrupted.

A variety of topics are covered, including how different disasters would impact your services, how to contact your clients during a disaster, how to access important information and support and what resources your organisation could contribute to broader community responses.

The next workshop will be held at the Gympie Civic Centre on Wednesday June 13 from 5.30pm to 8pm. Discussions will include finding out whether your sporting or recreation group is ready for a major emergency event. What is your disaster and recovery plan? What funding and support is available?
