Over 60s members, Sandra Sykes, Doug and Annette Collins, Sheenan Baird and Barbara Gammon visited Lindols Macadamias – there’s more local farms to see this month with Forage Gympie Region

Gympie Region provides visitors with a unique look into how their food is produced and, more importantly, eaten. Expect a true paddock and farm, gate-to-plate experience. Here are some of the events on offer:

Sundays PAELLA IN THE PADDOCK 1 – 4pm

Cooloola Berries has live music, locally grown food, delicious ciders, lemonades and craft beer. Experience the flavours of yummy pancakes, waffles and scones topped with our jam and handcrafted ice-cream.

Thursdays THE RATTLER TASTING TRAIN

Celebrate all that our region has to offer on our historic rail motor experience on the RM76 Railmotor. Includes an on-board tasting plate and lunch at the Historic Gympie Station featuring a local seasonal menu and a beverage of your choice.

May 8 FORAGE FARMS FARM TOUR 9-11am FREE

Owners Stuart and Megan, along with their boys Hamish and Lachlan, will guide you around their beautiful and productive farm. Learn about regenerative farming philosophy from third generation regenerative farmers.

See our chickens, pigs, sheep, cattle and Maremma dogs in action at 87 Mullaly Road, Kybong. Our family farm operation ethically produces eggs, pork, lamb and chicken, creating a new paddock-to-plate experience.

May 13-15 GYMPIE SHOW

Come along to our local show and enjoy thrilling rides in Sideshow Alley, marvel at the tractors, trucks, cars and farming equipment on display in Machinery Alley, and get close and personal with the animals in the animal nursery.

Be amazed by show jumping, barrel racing, bull riding, cattle judging and more in the Main and Rodeo Arenas. Embrace the creative side of our community at the pavilion and don’t forget to grab a show bag!

May 14 NEW MOON DINNER

The New Moon is the start of a new period and what better way to start than with a meal celebrating fresh local produce and the pleasure that comes from coming together to eat. Drinks available for purchase on the night.

New Moon dinners are a shared set menu featuring seasonal local produce. We also have a local produce-inspired cocktail list!

May 19 FERMENTING AND GUT HEALTH

Join nutritionist, farmer and passionate fermenter Victoria Kane, for a hands-on workshop on fermentation at Kandanga. Learn about the health benefits of incorporating fermented foods into your diet, plus the do’s and don’ts of home fermentation.

Cost includes lunch (with ferments of course!) and a take-home jar to kick start your own fermenting journey.

May 22 TASTE OF THE MARY VALLEY

Join us for a relaxed evening in Amamoor Lodge sampling many of the flavours from the Mary Valley and Gympie region. Enjoy a relaxed food service, with multi course, individual hot and cold tasting plates; informal seating, outdoors at tables or on hay bales by a fire pit under the night sky. BYO drinks.

May 23 BAUPAL PARK FARM TOUR

Established in 2018, this Chatsworth property has grown in reputation to produce delicious value-add products from its macadamia and organic vegetable crops.

The farm is unique in its approach to utilising natural microbe cultures to improve yields. Come learn about natural farming – $10 per person, gates open at 10am with the farm tour from 11am.

May 27-30 GOOMERI PUMPKIN FESTIVAL

Celebrating its 25th birthday, one of the quirkiest festivals in Queensland grows the small town of Goomeri; a population of 650, to well over 18,000!

Dedicated to all things pumpkin, this festival showcases a variety of stallholders, food vans, artists, celebrated chefs and the unmissable Great Australian Pumpkin Roll™ down Policeman’s Hill. You’ll be entertained from dawn to dusk.

May 28 FRIDAY LONG LUNCH FRIDAY 28 MAY

Join us for a relaxed two-course lunch where everything you eat is local. Learn more about the producers in the Mary Valley region while you eat the fruits of their labour!

At the Kandanga Farm Store we focus on organic and regenerative farming and we love to showcase our local producer customers who farm this way.

May 29 GRAZING IN GOOMERI DINNER UNDER THE STARS

A night of gastronomic food experiences, celebrating everything we value about living in the bush. Enjoy food from local producers, prepared by local catering company Beauty and the Beard Eats and Events, at Boonara Homestead. Bar available, hosting local wineries at this long table event.
