Cooloola Dragon Boat Club had volunteers travel to Kawana, Sunshine Coast for the Queensland Dragon Boat Club (DBQ) State Titles on the weekend of 11 and 12 March.

DBQ relies on the assistance of volunteers in many different roles such as: Race Secretary, Timekeeping, Marshalling, Boat Handling etc.

Clubs from Cairns to the New South Wales border travel to the event which is very competitive. The overall winners for the two days were: Sunshine Coast DBC, with our own Shane Berkhout competing with them. They also took out the Gayle Barnett Award for fastest 500m Mixed Team.

Our Wide Bay teams included 1770 who came away with a Silver and Bronze medal. And the team from Hervey Bay paddled extremely well over the weekend.

Hopefully Cooloola Dragon Boat Club will be back competing at the State Titles in 2023, but for now are in training for the Wide Bay Series that commences in Bundaberg on 7 May.
