Cricket Corner – Centurion Simmo

By James Worthington

The Rainbow Beach cricket club are heading into the Christmas break off the back of four straight victories and none as impressive as the final match played before the Christmas break against Gympie Valleys.

It was a scorching afternoon in Rainbow Beach as Valleys travelled across to Rainbow anticipating a tough match up.

Rainbow Captain, Merv O’Neill, unfortunately lost the toss and Rainbow were forced into fielding in the difficult temperatures.

Rainbow’s chances of four straight victories quickly turned south as Valleys put on a great score of 205 runs meaning a record run chase was needed for Rainbow Beach to see victory.

Rainbow Beach completed the impossible task thanks to an outstanding knock from Andrew Simpson who became the club’s first centurion of the 2019-2020 season.

Rainbow’s record run chase wrapped up a fantastic season for the club as they look to come back even stronger after the Christmas break.

Our home games for this month are on January 4 and 18 at the home of Rainbow Beach cricket, Carlo Road Oval
