Rainbow Beach resident, Randy Orwin, is the new president of Cooloola Coastcare. Randy has a background in teaching environmental science and biology and his extensive tech experience has Coastcare embracing digital technology.

Randy is looking forward to leading the organisation in new ventures and engaging more community members in caring for our coast. Outgoing President and now Secretary, Fiona Hawthorne, and two other long-serving executive members, Maree Prior and Jenny Adamson, were inducted as Life Members in recognition of their tremendous contribution over many years.

Linda Tabe, a retired CSIRO researcher from Cooloola Cove, is taking on a dual role of Vice President and Newsletter Editor in 2019. Coastcare has secured nearly $60,000 in grants in 2018 to continue their work for new and existing research and citizen science projects such as WaterWatch (adults and youth versions), TurtleCare (beach walkers wanted), biodiversity monitoring with another BioBlitz planned for 17-19 May 2019 and more underwater research in eight creeks in Tin Can Inlet.

The Weed Warriors will be back in 2019 caring for the Tin Can Bay foreshore. Coastcare is looking for volunteers interested in forming weeding teams for other areas needing attention. Coordinator, Dr Lindy Orwin, said she is looking forward to an exciting year ahead for Coastcare. Check out their updated website at www.cooloolacoastcare.org.au
