Cooloola Coast Community Local Disaster Management Meeting

Disaster Dashboard - Gympie CouncilWith the recent and ongoing emergency evacuations across the state now is the time to prepare your emergency plan.

Members of the Rainbow Beach Chamber and Community Centre recently met with the Chairman of the Cooloola Coast Community Local Disaster Management Support Group, Mr Terry Steele to discuss evacuation procedures for Rainbow Beach.

The Community Centre holds a number of Get Ready Guides from the Qld Fire and Emergency Services which are available for residents and it is crucial that every household has an evacuation plan.

One of the best sources of up to date information is the Gympie Regional Council Dashboard which receives information as soon as it comes to hand by the Disaster Management Teams http://disaster.gympie.qld.gov.au/

In Rainbow Beach the Community Centre will be the base of the Emergency Operations and they will receive up to date directions and information from Gympie Regional Council.

A public meeting will be held at the Rainbow Beach Community Centre at 5.30pm December 12th to give information.

The next regional meeting of the The Cooloola Coast branch will be held at the Cooloola Cove Community & Vets hall at on December 3, and are contactable on 5486 4483 during an emergency.

EMERGENCY READY DOs:

  • Do stay tuned to local media for all warnings
  • Do follow instructions from authorities
  • Do keep children away from rivers, creeks, drains and  flood waters

FLOOD READY DON’Ts:

  • Don’t Ignore Flood Warnings
  • Don’t Try to Drive, Boat, Walk, Swim or Wade through flood waters
  • Don’t drink flood water or eat contaminated food.
