Plenty of quality Pearl Perch have been common lately on Baitrunner: Jackson with a nice pair

Hi everyone.

Firstly, I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year.

As I’m writing this we are in the middle of some rough weather and huge swells which has put a stop to any trips for a couple of weeks now, up until now though it’s been pretty good and the fishing has been very productive with mixed bags of all species.

Mahi-mahi have been around along with Cobia which is providing some nice sports action. We have been catching plenty of quality Pearl Perch with quite a few specimens between the 3-4 kilo range and a few pushing over.

Parrot, sweetlip, cod, Moses Perch, snapper and the odd Red Emperor have been making up the majority of catches.

In the straits, Jacks seem to be hit-and-miss but when on they are in good numbers, with reports of plenty getting smoked by these aggressive predators.

Well, now we just have to wait for this weather to settle again and get back into it.

‘Til next month, enjoy the holidays!

Mat Cooper
