Last day to enrol to vote
Country to Canberra is encouraging young people to enrol to vote in the 2 July federal election, with enrolment closing at 8pm tonight.
Recent figures from the Australian Electoral Commission show almost half of 18-year-olds are not registered to vote, and Country to Canberra Founder and CEO Hannah Wandel says that puts our youth at a huge disadvantage. “
Youth issues need to be given more airtime in Australian politics. By enrolling and taking a stand, you’ll be forcing politicians to pay attention to the issues you’re passionate about like climate change, gender equality and education. “We have powerful voices, and together, we can make a difference.”
Enrolment closes at 8pm today (May 23) and can be done on the Australian Electoral Commission website. Ms Wandel says she hopes eligible youths not already registered, get involved.
“At the very least, you will avoid getting a fine! We have a big opportunity to shape Australia for the next three years, so it’s important to engage.”
