Storytelling workshop at Gympie Library

Peter CarnavasGympie Library hosts a storytelling workshop for school age writers and illustrators.   Budding young writers and illustrators will be able to learn the finer points of storytelling from award winning children’s author Peter Carnavas at a fun-filled workshop to be held at Gympie Library this month. Geared especially toward primary school aged children, the workshop will be held on Saturday 28 May from 9.30 to 10.30 am, as part of an Australia wide ‘Library and Information Week’ program of arts, craft and entertainment events.

Peter Carnavas grew up in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, where he spent a lot of time drawing pictures and writing short stories. Things haven’t really changed, according to Peter, who spent many hours as a primary school teacher sharing books with his classes, before starting on his own journey as a professional writer.

Peter Carnavas AuthorSince 2008, when his first picture book Jessica’s Box was published, Peter’s work has received widespread recognition, being shortlisted for both the Children’s Book Council of Australia and Queensland Premier’s Literary Awards, receiving a listing in the Banks Street Center for Children’s Literature, and becoming a finalist in the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators ‘Crystal Kite’ Awards.

Peter Carnarvas still spends a lot of time visiting schools, but he also visits libraries to share his many literary and artistic skills with children who also love storytelling. His workshop at Gympie Library will be free to attend, with bookings essential on 54810859 or online at library@gympie.qld.gov.au
