Café rises out of the ashes
Leanne Modin, Kerri Jordison and Jordi Jones are super excited to be part of the Sea Salt Café @ Rainbow, the newest addition to the Rainbow Beach café scene

The opening of the Sea Salt Café @ Rainbow is the Modin Family’s ‘silver lining’.
On October 18th last year a fire destroyed the Coloured Sands Café and the Foodworks next door. The Modin’s soldiered on as they are want to do and after months of stress, worry and bloody hard work the Sea Salt grocery store opened. Early August saw the second stage of the rebuild come to fruition with the opening of the café.
As Leanne “Tuppy” Modin explains, “After the fire the family sat down and discussed what we were going to do. We had a few options, like expanding the grocery store, but after a lot of toing and froing we decided to open and run the café ourselves.”
It is a real family affair with Jordi moving from Brisbane to take up barista duties, Leanne the ‘chef’ extraordinaire, Shelley jumping in to wash dishes etc and Buddy behind the counter taking orders. I even spotted Ruth picking up plates and giving the bench a wipe the other day!
“I have always wanted to cook…to become a chef, now I am living my dream.” Adds Leanne. “Hopefully when we have settled in a bit I will start my apprenticeship. I can’t wait.”
Another key player in the café is Kerri Jordison, who was hand-picked by Leanne and the rest of the family. “It was a no brainer, Kerri is a great cook, has a lot of experience and is such a good person. She is an asset to the business.”
“We are really happy with the everything so far, it has been so busy we ran out of coffee in the first four days. That was supposed to last us a week!”
The café is open from 5am daily and Leanne changes the specials every day to keep us all coming back.
Plus there is more in store: a new deck and licensed restaurant as well as a few other surprises.
