As I write, the wind is once more howling and close to gale force. The norm over the past month has been one of frequent changes in the the weather pattern from northerlies to south easterlies. This may continue for a few weeks as the season changes, and we get more humidity.

We have enjoyed some terrific snapper fishing over the past month, with many punters witnessing sharks following the fish to the surface. Most snapper have been in the 2-3 kg range but on occasions the 5 and 6 kg fish came onboard.

Other species landed included Moses and pearl perch, sweetlip, hussar, cobia, amberjack, red emperor and lots of parrot. If the current is not running the wider reefs have been producing better fish.

The whales have given our clients some great viewing also over the past four months.

This may be my last fishing report, as Rosie and I have sold our business after 20 years. We registered Rainbow Beach Fishing Charters in 1996 when we still had the houseboats and till late 2000 used a smaller vessel for the offshore trips.

Time flies and after nearly 24 years in tourism that should be it, as we fall back on other interests. Timber work will definitely be on the menu at Wolvi, maybe header and tractor work in Victoria and I could always class a bit of wool.

Of course the caravan is waiting to go and Aid work is still on the go until at least Christmas…

Mat Cooper has bought our business and he has been fishing with us for about 15 years. He is a good fisherman and will do well in the business.

To all that have supported our business, we extend a big thank you and wish you all well in the future.
